While many distilleries on the Orkney Islands produce peated malt (malt using peat), Scapa uses unpeated malt.
Scapa Distillery utilises partially reconstructed Lomond stills (specialised stills with a distinctive bulge) – a rarity in Scotland. This results in a spirit that is exceptionally fruity and mellow. Furthermore, the name “Skiren” for the bottle derives from Old Norse (the historical language of the Orkney Islands), meaning **“bright shining sky”**, evoking the light-filled skies of Orkney.
